Crossroads in the Community: August 2026
This past month, Crossroads showed up in two rooms. One was full of attorneys who could join our cause, and the other was full of youth and organizations serving the same kids we do.
HCBA Young Lawyers Division: Get Involved!
On July 16, we joined the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division for their first-ever “Get Involved!” event, held at noon on the 6th floor of the George E. Edgecomb Courthouse. Local pro bono organizations each had a table, set up walk-and-stroll style so attorneys could move through at their own pace, ask questions, and sign up on the spot.
For Crossroads, it was a chance to talk directly with new and returning HCBA YLD members about pro bono opportunities through Crossroads to put their skills and their heart to advocate for the youth in our community. Events like this one are how we build our next class of volunteer attorneys, one conversation at a time.
Madi’s Movement: Pathways to Employment Expo
On July 22, we tabled at Madi’s Movement’s 3rd Annual Pathways to Employment Career Readiness Expo, held at Feeding Tampa Bay. Madi’s Movement supports teens and young adults with lived experience in foster care as they navigate the transition to independence, and this expo is one of the ways they put that mission into action: 150 teens and young adults came through the doors to meet mentors, practice interviews, get professional headshots, and connect with employers and schools across more than 50 fields.
Crossroads staffed a table alongside dozens of other organizations, there simply to show up for these young people and support them in whatever way we could, whether that meant answering a question, sharing an encouraging word, or just listening. Madi’s Movement told us afterward that what stood out most to attendees wasn’t any single workshop or resource. It was having someone there who genuinely cared about them and their future. That is exactly the kind of connection Crossroads wants to build.
Between these two events, one week held both sides of our work. We met attorneys who could join our cause, and we stood alongside the youth and organizations who serve the same kids we do.
