Volunteer Spotlight: Fiona Foley, Carlton Fields

Practicing law can be stressful and overwhelming. For Fiona Foley, volunteering as an Attorney Ad Litem with Crossroads For Florida Kids has become the part of her work that feels most meaningful. This month, we are proud to feature her in our AAL Spotlight.
One moment from her time as a volunteer stands out. Fiona took a young client to Chick-fil-A for dinner to talk about how he was doing. When she told him he could order as much as he wanted and wouldn’t have to pay, she was struck by how excited he was. “It was humbling to see how excited he was,” she recalls. “Seeing a kid react like that to the basic necessity of food put so much in perspective for me and really had a lasting impact on how I value things in my life.”
Fiona encourages other attorneys to get involved. “Volunteering as an Attorney Ad Litem for Crossroads is the most rewarding thing you will do as an attorney,” she says. “Practicing law is often stressful and overwhelming, but becoming an AAL makes the work meaningful because what you are doing is having a real impact on these kids’ futures.”
Outside the courtroom, Fiona’s heart is in Ireland, which she says will always be home for her. Both of her parents were born and raised there, and they made sure she and her siblings visited every summer as kids and young adults. Now she returns as an adult with her husband and their kids, which she describes as “truly something special.”
Thank you, Fiona, for showing up for the youth we serve.
