National Child Abuse Prevention Month: Why Advocacy Matters

Every April, communities across the country pause to reaffirm a shared commitment: every child deserves safety, stability, and the chance to grow up surrounded by care. National Child Abuse Prevention Month is both a call to awareness and a reminder that strong families and supportive communities are the foundation of child well‑being.

The blue pinwheel, the national symbol of Child Abuse Prevention Month, represents the bright futures all children deserve. It’s a simple image with a powerful message: prevention is possible when we work together.

At Crossroads For Florida Kids, prevention isn’t limited to one month. Every day, our volunteer attorneys and staff step in at critical moments for children who have experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment. By giving each young person a voice, an advocate, and a consistent adult in their corner, we help interrupt cycles of harm and open pathways toward safety and healing. Whether in the courtroom or in the community, our team stands alongside Hillsborough County’s most vulnerable youth at every step of their journey.

This month, we invite you to learn, share, and take action. Volunteer your legal expertise, spread awareness in your networks, or support organizations working to protect children and strengthen families. Every effort, large or small, helps build a community where every child is safe, supported, and heard.

As a pro bono organization, we rely on committed volunteer attorneys to make this work possible. The more volunteer attorneys we have, the more children we can stand beside at the moments they need us most. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, visit www.crossroadsfloridakids.org or contact Scott Tolliver, Executive Director, at scott@crossroadsfloridakids.org.

Together, we can create the conditions where children not only survive but thrive.
